An online betting company has recently announced a deal with software suppliers Global Interactive Gaming (GIG) to offer an innovative new online betting service to cater for the coming football World Cup.

The new online betting service will allow punters to place in-play bets on a variety of points, including the times of goals scored, half-time scores and of course, the final outcome of the match in the world's biggest sporting event this June.

The deal will see New Jersey-based Interactive Systems Worldwide's subsidiary company, GIG, will provide software for the online betting company as well as services for the play-by-play betting service. GIG will create and manage the wagering markets, set odds and control odds changes, closing and settlement of bets in return for a share of revenue from the service, while the online betting company will accept all bets and act as the main site to attract customers and handle business.

The online betting services will be offered throughout Europe on over twenty websites. The president of ISW reportedly commented that the company is extremely happy to have made this agreement, confident that the enhanced product will be a boon to both companies.

By significantly increasing customers' betting opportunities, both companies stand to benefit and the system will be available in several European languages with bets being accepted in several major currencies.

The new system will undergo an initial 18 month trial period which will, after the World Cup, include bets on basketball, cricket, NFL, rugby, snooker, darts and tennis matches. However it is clear that the real breadwinner will be the World Cup, with bookmakers world-wide standing to bring in massive profits, especially since the advent of widespread online betting.

According to one online betting company, the last World Cup, held in Japan and South Korea in 2002 set world records in the gambling world, in terms of both value and quantity of bets placed on a single event. Another online betting company has reported that over £10 million worth of bets have already been placed in the UK alone, with more than a month to go before the first kick-off of the event.
